Rude awakening!!!

Hi folks,

This morning we are going on holiday, up to see Malins Family in the North of Sweden for a week, our flight is around 8.30 am, so we booked a taxi to the airport for 6.30am. Malin jumped out of bed 10 minuets ago screaming that it was 6.30, and we had overslept by an hour. It was only when she called the taxi company to delay the cab and they pointed out it was acctualy 5.30 and we have an hour left that we calmed down!!!!

Its a good way of getting you moving anyway ....   PANIC......

So I probably will be blogging about polar bears and igloos in my next post, but untill then.....

Of Fish, men and endless days.....

Hello peoples,

Well, it’s the day before Mid-summer, the longest day of the year, and here in Sweden in the summertime, that makes for very, very long days!!! It gets dark sometime after midnight and the sun rises just after 1am, crazy place, crazy lighting levels!!

The Swedes take Midsummer very seriously indeed, which is not surprising when you think about how dark it is in the wintertime. The normal procedure,  as I see it anyway,  is, dance around a VERY phallic looking maypole type structure during the daytime, while everyone sings songs about small green frogs, and their unfortunate lack of ears (I kid you not here, non Swedish folk! check out the picture here ) then out comes the snaps and pickled fish (this happens at every Swedish celebration!) and perhaps some meatball and potato and fish pie then more snaps and more pickled fish washed down with a beer. I am not really sure what happens next, but being all grown up and a father of 2 now, I may actually be able to remember to the end of the night so I will let you know.

To the point, or at least the title of this entry.... We have been talking about getting a fish tank for Luka (and Daddy!!) for a year or 2 now, but there have always been a hundred or so more important things to spend our hard earned krona upon, anyway we were round with some friends last week having a coffee and a chat when I commented on how nice the new fish tank was..... "If you want it, its yours.." was the reply, They had been given a fish, and bought it a bigger tank, and then bought it some friends, and even though they had a quick lesson in which fish can live with which, (IE. lots of casualties!!) they were now were sick of cleaning it, so we gave them a new home.

Although I know there is one fish in there that will outgrow the tank in a few months, Malin likes having fish so much she has agreed to get him his own tank and perhaps a girlfriend :-) , Luka is over the moon to have his own fish, and it keeps Oskar the cat amused for hours. Christer och Suzie we salute and thank you!!

Well, I also had my most successful evenings fishing this year the other night, when I caught 8 fish in 2 hours or so, they were all little 'uns but  it was fun anyway with the sunset right in front of me, and nothing but an unusually aggressive Swan to disturb my rapture.

I always feel a little lucky when I am fishing that I now have such beauty only a 10 min. bike ride from my home. I am sure anyone that has lived in Walsall will testify to this.

Luka also caught his second fish the other day, which he loved; he had a little help from Daddy, but did most of the waiting and throwing stones into the water himself. I give him full credit for this one, mainly due to the size of the bugger..

I cannot express how pleased I am that Luka likes fishing with Daddy, I don’t know how old I was when me and Dad started fishing together, but I never felt closer than when we were sharing some lake shore space in the search for a big 'en!!

Anyway, Malin has just returned from giving our neighbor a proper cool 1960's style bob haircut, she was a little unsure so came down for a second opinion. Kirsy, if your reading this.... its cool!!!

So now I throw myself into the serious business of takng it easy for a week or so.  I’m not sure if I can send reports from the north of Sweden or not, apparently the fastest internet connections are by carrier pigeon , but we will see, anyways,

Take care, an have a great midsummer folks!!!

PS, I allmost forgot,

(Mainly because she is almost 0% trouble as baby's go, but Im sure this will be repayed later no doubt!!!!) Nova is doing great, she is 2 cm taller than Luka was @ 3 months and 1½Kg lighter. Here is the latest pic of our little Princess.........

 Love Lee.

Long hot Summer dayz!!!

Hello folks,

For the last 2 weeks in Stockholm has had a heatwave, the air has been thick with the smell of new mown grass and medow flowers. The heat pierces through to your core, like you were on some mediterainian island, there are scantily clad girls wondering the throughfares distracting you from your buisness, and when you finaly finish your days work and settle down with a cold beer, it has been like angels dancing on the tongue.

I have been to, and lived in a few nice nice places around the world, but there is not much to compare with Stockholm in the hight of summer. we have been averaging around 78° F , (or 26° C if you prefer) in the shade on my balcony these weeks, and its been wonderful!! Still there is rain due tomorrow so perhaps it will be back to normal...

Big congratulations due to Stina and Enar  (Lukas god parents) who welcomed there daughter , (as yet still undecided on the name ) on Thursday 29th of May. She is a little darling with more hair than any baby has a right to have!!!

Other fun stuff this week was the Swedish national day on Friday, which gave us a bank holiday and saw me show my support by wearing my English football top, the irony of this on the dawn of Euro2008 was not lost on the Swedes, who taunted me mercilessly when I popped into my local for a quick one at lunch time.

The evening was also very enjoyable , with us playing host to our friend Krilla, his son Jimmy and our dear friend Anders, (who we don't see anywhere near enough these days) . Malin cooked some really good food and although Krilla and Jimmy made a reasonably early exit, the rest of us were sitting up and chatting shite on the balcony till the early hours. Always a great way to spend a night, and Luka really took a shine to Anders, this is a photo of them both on the way down to the train the next morning.....

This is especially funny because Anders professes not to be a "kiddy kind of guy", this however, didn't bother Luka!!

The Final fun of the weekend has been a couple of hours in the park tonight, when Luka flew a kite for the first time, and was briefly the most popular guy in the park!! Not many of the other kids there had even seen a kite before so it was really good fun, I have some video clips but haven't figured out how to stick them in my blog yet, but I will put them on a page on my main site when I get chance. What I did get however was a photo from the playpark which sums up what Nova thought of it all........

   Love to one and all

Revenge of the Nerds....

A quick update on the events of Friday night...

I had a phone call from the manager of "Ballbreaker" on Saturday, to tell me he would be investigating the incident, and then he called me today to tell me it was decided the door staff were at fault, and he was very sorry, and would be more than happy to replace my hands free kit and to give me a gift card so myself and "some friends" could come and eat and drink on the houses hospitality.

Result!!!!   And also not what I expected, but fair play to them, there are a lot of venues round the world with thugs on the door, and the mangers couldnt care less, so its nice to  find one that is different. so all is forgiven now, or at least will be soon, after all , as anyone who knows me knows, a little free beer goes a long way in my world....................................................................
